Emm... lyk 9 months ago, I had to increase the salinity. So i pour the salt into the area where the water flow out. and the not-dissolved particles floated to the anemone... and then the anemone melted... dun tok abt it liao.

now, i prefer carpets. much easier to maintain and keep.

to sum it up, never dump salt directly into a tank. always put it into a container first, dissolve it in water, THEN dump it into a tank. salt crystals have the ability to burn corals, not just anemones.

the same goes for any additives.

Is fire shrimp the same as blood shrimp? I have 4 cleaner shrimp. Can I add blood shrimp into the tank?

the last I check, they share the same common names. my six fire shrimps are living very well with cleaner shrimps. both species have their own rockscape in which they call their own territory. so no dispute between them I guess.

Use the egg crate wrapped with plastic net ( those that comes with some fruits ) to cover the overflow to prevent fishes falling in.

yours is probably an anomaly. most people I know do not have murderous fire shrimps.

either that or your shrimps were half dead by the time the fire shrimps got hold of it.

Take the trouble to label your plugs/connection.. eg skimmer/return pump.. you will not regret it when you need to switch on/off the right equipment instantly in an emergency! - Adapted from tip contributed by Razo

Always keep extra carbon or poly filter on standby. You never know when you going to need them. At least for tank that are less than 1 year old.

Make sure stand by tank for 24/7 if using ice in container to lower water temp.

Add salt to fresh water during a water change and never the other way around! You will avoid milky saltwater due to calcium precipitation and find it easier to dissolve the salt - Adapted from tip contributed by Terryansimon

dun ever buy cheap unreliable electrical appliances (eg timer ) , power bar .... better be safe than sorry . spend a bit more if there is a need to ....
