Photo period for Algae Scrubber

Would like some advice from fellow reefers.

I’ve been running a small Upflow Algae Scrubber (UAS) for around a year now, and harvesting algae weekly. All this time been running it 24hrs daily, meaning always running non-stop.

Would like to cut down the photo period time. DT lights are on 9am-10pm. Would it be ok to only on the UAS light from 10pm-10am? And while light is on, the pump should still be running, right?

TIA for any advice and comments.

Never use a UAS before so unable to give best advice but below is my experience for ur reference.

I run my refugium lighting period at night and off in the morning, opposite from my DT lighting period. But I use my refugium to maintain PH and house copepods rather than nutrient export.

Hence, u will need to consider a few points. If u shorten ur light period will it affect ur nutrient export? Will ur PH fluctuate alot at night?

I think is gd for the water to continue circulate even the light is off.

Hope this help.
