Egg Crate below sandbed

Its a bad idea to put egg crates - detritus build up.

Note that glass is generally quite strong. Its unlikely for a falling rock in a filled tank to drop & break the glass bottom.

And if one is worried about sharp edges of rocks during the initial setup, just saw off the bottom pointy bits to make it flat.

My worry is on the concentrated pressure point exerted on the bottom glass.

If you're worried, cut out a small square piece of egg crates and rest the pointy part of your rocks on it. Small piece of egg crates won't cause much issue.

Its not an issue. Glass is actually very very strong.

But if still worried, as mentioned, use a hand saw to trim the rock such that it becomes a flat surface instead of pointed tip. That's what i did with mine. Also recommended on BRSTV.
