T5 is THE NEXT BIG THING for me, its long slim profile allows for greater flexibility and better light dispersion.

Its cool temperature is also a draw since that meant that we may be able to do without a chiiler (or at least one of smaller capacity)

For MH users, you'll be glad to know that it can be used as supplementation for your lights.

SPS mad guys might also wanna consider since it seems that they have tubes specifically designed to grow SPS. Think some US reefers had some success in that.

I was actually thinking of upgrading my current 36W PLs to 55W PLs. Then, saw T5 ads on eAquanature which kind of caught my attention. Since the current eBallast supports till 40W, thus the T5 39W can still be supported.

Thus, I will KIV my next project till more info from eAquaNature.

AT, looks that there is a strong interest in T5 with fellow reefers and hope you could neg. for a better deal with eAquaNature.

Thanks,

Limpc

was thinkin & waiting for T5 since TFH did a review months ago.

if prices were the same as T8 most probably would have gone for it but......

considering the prices + for a 4ft for good coral growth would need abt 8 tubes (6 white+2 actinic)same as VHO- MH turns out cheaper & is already a proven light source(takes up less space too).

If u read the details on the test tanks with sps in them- they don't just run 2 tubes. They still pump out considerable wattage over their tanks.

i think they are a very good alternative to PL.

How deep the T5(which is still a FL) can penetrate is another consideration, maybe 1.5ft no problems but beyond?. so i agree with onghm- more feasible ugrade for 2ft or even 3ftooters. but if u have the cash to do it on a 4ft reef, why not.

phang- maybe step up to 1000w sets before natural sunlight :D

Do a search on T5 on the web, the history of it- it was actually designed for replacement of office lights a few yrs ago, running cooler-brighter-thus light to money ratio. They trying to make T5 the standard FL tube...(just like T8 is more common than the other T's....)took abt 2 yrs before the first T5 aquatic tube was available. sort of fuzzy on it cause read it last yr sometime.

I"M NOT MAD!!!!!!!!!.......

:D:D

Not referring to you in any way la Phang, maybe 'mad' is too strong a word to use, sorry ... but I like your response

There is a Chinese saying, but I'm giggling so hard now I can't remember.....:lol:

Bawater,

Point taken about penetration; T5 probably doesn't have the kind of penetration a MH has, will mail ARCADIA about that. Meanwhile, we'll try to find something on the net.

I do have some ideas of a totally enclosed semi outdoor tank under that receives sunlight from noon until about 3 then MH kicks in until about 10pm.

MH is not power power consuming than other mode of lighting.

Consider 150 W of MH and 150 W of FL.

BOTH CONSUME 150 W !!!

Now who gives more PAR? MH is clearly the winner.

Sor for the same amount of light which mode consume more electricity?

Just a reminder....people seems to forget to consider the lifespan of T5 tube.

The replacement cost may cost you more in the long run.

Nutx dont worry as i think in time to come T5 replacement cost will be much cheaper than buying T8 or PL..

Already with XGlare T5-HO tubes pricing right now it is even cheaper than some china made T5-NO tubes or T8.

:heh:
