how many K MH should i use

Recommended Posts

The Kelvin value is the colour temperature of the bulb and has nothing to do with the intensity

It all depends on your preference:

6500K Yellow, High PAR, More growth of corals

10000K Cool White, Medium PAR, Resonable growth of corals

12000K Cooler White, Lesser PAR, Lesser Growth

14000K Bluish White, Lesser PAR, Lesser Growth, Colours more vivid

20000K Blue, Very low PAR, Low growth, Colours more vivid

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

To me, you will be unique in all the world.

To you, I shall be unique in all the world...

You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.

most people will go for 10kk, where you get a good mix. 14kk gives you a nice bluish tint without overkill, 20kk is really blue... i prefer the 10kk though. For 6.5kk, gotta supplement with actinics to get a nice balance...

Go for 10,000K and supplement with FL or T5 Blue Actinics. 10,000K give you good growth which is important for corals but I personally find it too yellow. So supplementing with actinics will balance off the yellowish hue as well as give more benefits to your corals

Why do they say 20K colours more vivid? seems like everything just takes on a blue hue.. all the colour detail is lost in the blue... I'd rather take an inbetween... 12k or something... maybe 10k would be good too

Thats a nice MH light. Is it with an external ballast?

i believe the external ballast is on the top right hand corner of the pic. and my guess is the MH set is from Vic%ron.

i wud luv to, but may be after i install the mh light rack.

trying to install two 150W MH (10000K each), but first need to get dr. evil to do for me.

my tank 36 x 18 x 24 (height). hope two 150W is not an overkill.

do you think i need to also install additional actinic blue lights to supplement?
