Tank Adapter

Thinking of changing to a bigger return pump but my current 3' tank overflow has an 80 gauge 1" tank adapter (bulkhead) which is not able to cope with the flow rate. Could anyone advise where to get tank adapter for 40 gauge or any adapter for 12mm glass. Also wondering what adapter fellow reefers here use for their tank. When I was doing the piping sometime back it was so difficult to find one so end up using an 80 gauge type. Does GF have one? What is the product code? Anyone can help?

You currently using a 1" tank adapter and what is the brand that you got? Hayward? +GF+? You can try using a male/female adapter that will give you a bigger through hole compared to an original tank adapter for the same hole size on the tank.

Guess if from Hai Cheong, then may be a Hayward. For a 1" Hayward true tank adapter, the internal hole size is very much smaller than 1" and this may slow down the flow rate. This is due to the 'space' taken up by the thread on the male body. I am using a +GF+ male/female schedule 80 adapter with a slight modification. I mill off the male top portion to make it more like a true tank adapter. My tank(12mm) hole size is 50mm and my adapter size is 1.5" and fits very well. I have 2 x 1.5" drain and 2 x 1" return. About the threading, one do not need so much to tighten.

I guess that you have only 1 x drain. It is difficult to drill more holes or enlarge one once the tank is fixed up. You can try the male/female adapter I mentioned.
