Clowns and ??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just want to pick your brains. Currently, I have a 2ft tank with one False Clown and one Clark's Clown. The two of them get along pretty well most of the time. Sometimes, during feeding time the bigger one (Clark's) might attack the other one. But, no damage done. :)

My question - If I wanted to add more fish, what fish to add so as not to upset the 'peace'?

Why not add more clown.....since you have 2 diff kind already. I suggest a Fire Clown. I bought 2 weeks ago and gets along great with others. Beautiful fish and eats well too.

i wish i had a pic of it to share but to bad my digital cam is with my cousin.

I think fire clown not suited to mix with other clowns. its more aggressive as compared to other clowns, more territorial i guess. But if u add a fire clown to a tank with some established clowns around, the established ones will turn around and attack the fire. That is what i encountered before, dont know about others. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Anyway Blennies, Gobies, Wrasses or Angels will be good additions. But do read up on the mixture of species to avoid conflicts among themselves, esp. angels.

I'll like to thank all for your inputs. To be honest, I've tried most of the suggestions :D . Here's what happen.

I had a Canary Wrasse initially. I though it was doing weel, but one day notice it had dissappear! Guess it could not compete with the Clowns.

I also tried a Brown Tang (a baby one, about 1.5 inch diameter). Noticed that it could not settle down and kena harnress by the Clark Clown. Finally decide to returned it to the shop.

Thinking now of gobies or fire fish. Or maybe save the money and convert filter system to a sump system. Decision, decisions, decisions... B)

Hi,

Me also have a 2ft tank FOWLR. ( Crazy clown lover)

However I have 6 common clown (5mths), 1 tomato clown, 1 small Mandarin (5mths) and 1 Lawnmover blenny and 1 turbo snail. I know there is a very heavy bioload.

Using a external Eheim Canister filter.

Will be given up 2 clown for adoption tomoorrow.

- for competible tank mate check these http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/compatibility_chart.cfm might give you some clue

for clown fish member competible check these http://www.peteducation.com/category_summa...cls=16&cat=1867

Fish compatibility also very much depends on individual fish "personality". My maroon clown harassed my domino damsel pretty badly, yet left my 6-line wrasse alone, although the 6-line was slightly smaller than the domino. On the other hand, my dottyback would always pick on my 6-line, yet did not bother my damsel nor clown at all.
