SRC Member AlfaRomeo Posted May 27, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted May 27, 2004 Whats a ladtop? Do you mean laptops? If so, can get those from fujitsu or toshiba... depends on your budget and requirements tho.. laptops can cost from 2000 for cheap ones right up to $5000 for top of the line powerbook laptops from apple. SRC Member victorp Posted May 27, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted May 27, 2004 any idea if powerbook canuse microsoft windows edition for mac? or is comes with only the mac windows now? I don't understand what you mean. Are you talking about Microsoft Office 2004 for MacOS X, or running Microsoft Windows on a Macintosh? The former is almost ready to be released (I think it is going to be next month), while the later has to run under Virtual PC for Macintosh. Virtual PC is an emulation software that turns your Mac into a computer capable of running most PC-based software. However, as it is done under software emulation, any PC-based software that runs on this will be slightly slower. You have to decide what operations you want to perform with a notebook and decide from there onwards. So, maybe you can describe what are your needs and we can further recommend from there. SRC Member IcecruncherZ Posted May 28, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted May 28, 2004 I own a G4 Powerbook and I'm rather pleased with it so far, but there are problems that I must highlight... The battery is infamous for failing after 6 months> ie warranty period, do a search on battery problems and you'll see (mine has 1/3 the power left on it!) The bottom of the machine runs HOT!! The self loading disc drive is NOT infallible. I have on several occasions had discs that refused to eject and remained stuck for many minutes (some of the discs were not mine and you should see the look of horror on my friends' faces when the jammed mechanism makes freaky 'ka chuk' 'ka chuk' 'ka chuk' noises for minutes on end) Compatability issues with games, music processing software... etc etc. Virtual PC is NOT a practical means of resolving compatability issues, cos everything in there runs at snail speed. Other than the above points, its lovely. It's really stable, pretty to look at, and the display is marvellous. All my friends come over to my flat to watch movies on my laptop!
