What happens when you use a higher skimmer pump?

I have this question for those experts.

What will happen if I use a higher output needle wheel pump for my skimmer?

Will the bubbles be finer or will there be more skimmate?

eg: recommended needlewheel pump for skimmer is max 2000/hr

Now using 2700l/hr needlewheel pump for skimmer.

Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

the outcome shld be better i think.

Not necessary. If the height and diameter of the skimmer is not sufficiently high enough to cope with the huge amount of bubbles and pump rate, you might get very watery skimate. It also depends on what type skimmer you talking about. H&S kind or aquamedic kind.

i agree with gaga....

when a larger pump is used, the water intake and the air intake increases naturally...u have to control the air intake because when the air intake increase, the bubbles may not be as fine....u might end up with larger bubbles....

but however, if u decrease the air intake, water intake will increase thus the skimmate will be wet and thin if the skimmer body is not tall enuf....

i suggest that u use watever pump is provided for the skimmer and not change it...but if u are DIYing the whole thing, then u can give it a try....

A double or triple pass reaction chamber could help..........

The bubble sizes is dependent on the design of the needlewheel impeller, I dont think increase in flowrate will help in reducing the size of the bubbles.

An increase amount of needles or a reduce gap in between the needles on the impeller might help to reduce the bubble sizes.........
