i was tinking more of aluminium or plastic. wood is very workable but extremely ugly in mi open-top tank... aluminium is good in tat it doesnt rust (not sure if its 100% rust-proof) and plastic is confirm dun rust, but while i tink i noe where to get aluminium, i dunno where to get plastic tat can be custom-made for me by the supplier themselves. moreover, alum is more drillable den plastic?

also how much does it costs for a alum sheet measuring 30x10inches? how abt the price of a plastic material?

tks!!!! :)

creetin & dodo,

If u guys decided to go for the wooden ones, pls remember to ask for this material instead of normal industrial plywood:

Marine Plywood WBP Glue

It's slightly more expensive but worth for long run.

Btw, the word 'Marine' dun mean us reef/fish siao. It's a grade meant for building boat & yatch.

Why don't you use a skirting round the top of the tank?

Picture of the skirting around my tank

I use a fan on each side of the skirting to blow air in for cooling. The lighting rests on top of this skirting to give me some clearance from the water. About 9" from water surface.

Another shot from the front instead

Picture of the old method of mounting the VHO

The tubes are mounted to a wooden board and then place on top of the skirting.

The fans are for the water to increase evaporation so I can drip more kalk. The lights have another 2 of their own fans.

ok...point noted...butta  does every timber shop have tis type of Marine plywood?

anyway, there is very little chance for tis casing to come into contact wif water. I dun thk Marine plywood is suitable if it is use to house some light tubes

dodo,

Those shop in Eunos Ave 6 have it. Sometime, accident do happened. Even water splash on plywood will cause it to 'poke open' after a period of time. Anyway, it's personal preference ;)
