Dear friendly SRC comrades,

I have been thinking about modding my WEIPRO pump(currently used to drive MACRO JS350L venturi skimmer) to a needlewheel pump so as to increase the number of fine bubbles in my skimmer... However, I have no experience in DIYing such sttuff... can anyone explain? Where does the pump take in air?? If the impellor needlewheel comes before the air intake, how will the needlewheel chop up the bubbles to make it fine? Dun understand.. The pump comes with a connector with an air hole that can be connected to a air tube.. is this where the pump is supposed to take in the air?? The airhole doesn't seem to be functioning as it shoudl... instead of ###### in air, it pumps out water!!! why is this so??? Can I still mod my powerhead?? It's a WEIPRO powerhead flowrate 4000L/hr

hahhahhaaa....ME TOOO!!!! wanted to mod.. Weipro 3000L but the air hole just keep jetting out water at fast and uncontroller speed...i use a valve to block it instead...actually i tried before to use a high output air pump to pump in air ot the hose..And get a finner bubble..BUt :( i making a fool out of myself,Water gush into the hose of my high outtake air pump..and the whole air pump is jammed with water...at 3000L/H.. :(:( My 5way air-pump was wasted down the drain.. :( ..Imagine yours is a 4000L/H..Its worst.. anyway learn from my mistake..

dunno... thinking of modding my pump to needle wheel... dunno how though... any experts care to advise??? Hey edwan, you might wanna connect the airpump to the venturi air intake instead of the powerhead output.

yar, i tried many ways to mod my weipro skimmer but BUT, all failed leh..i put a air pump hose connected to the air pump and to the skimmer air intake but it makes the bubble burst faster..!! But , there are lots of tiny bubbles larh...But production of foam or waste is lously or around the same..cant mod..weipro de larh..duno how..not cant..LOL..want to get H&S but no sump :( THANks raymond. :thanks:

Just to share. I am using a weipro with needle wheel impeller which I salvage from a needle wheel pump.

The airtake should bw at the input of the pump rathe than at the output as only Then the bubbles will be chopped up by the needle wheel impeller.

what parts do I need where would I be able to get it? can anyone help me?

Just need a sharp sissors, a drill, a bioball the size of your impeller and superglue...........or for experiment sake, you might wan to try to mod a pvc piping or use the suction cone of those powerhead if the size is right and link a air tubing at the suction of the pump.

The main idea is to create only one way for the water to get suck into the pump like those external pumps, one inlet and one outlet.......then you make use of that suction energy from your pump to draw in maximum air and water to be chop by the impeller. If you have too many ways for the water to get in, the suction energy will be reduced and therefore the amount of air drawn in will be reduced.

For bioball needlewheel mod, just cut a bioball into half , drill a hole(same size as the impeller) in the middle of the bioball and remove the impeller from the pump, slot the bioball into the impeller, trim and glue them tight. You might need to add a spacer(tip of a pen) on the impeller shaft to extend the gap between the impeller and the cover housing, else the bioball might be rubbing against the cover housing.

Do a search in yahoo on needlewheel or spindlewheel skimmer or mod......happy diying......
