Hi all,

ve just added a maxima to my 3ft tank! But the problem is, my cleaner shrimp keeps picking off the maxima.. causing it to open and close... open and close.. can see the clam is highly disturbed. Anyone having the same problem?

Is the cleaner shrimp eating the maxima? or is it just picking off parasite?

my maxi also highly disturbed by my Cleaner shrimps... one of them actually frequently perch itself on the sides of the shell, it's "whiskers" seem to cause the clam great distress...

How long has this been happening? If it is just after the introduction of the clam it could be normal as the CS might just be picking off debri from the clam shell.

Give it more time, I would be wary if this still happens on the 2nd day. Normally dying clams will release chemicals that will attract scavengers. Something like how an injured bleeding fish will attract a shark.

Always something more important than fish.

It's normal that the CS will clean or at least investigate new additions to the tank... dun worry too much... If you're this persists and your uncomfortable with it, then relocate clam loh... should help

take note...... when CS visit your clam........ there is a high chance your clam is not doing well......... most of the time clam will die ...... slowly......

it will not help even if you shift your clam away......

according to what i know CS will not keep disturbing clam unless the clam is not sick/dying........

Yes sometimes it does that to my clams but it's OK. Once your clam is not well or the bottom is exposed (usually when the clam is unwell) the cleaners will pick on it and the clam will die, I had experienced this situation twice.

Cleaners are greedy shrimps and they will take food away from corals as well.

Nah.. CS are always attracted by new clams added cos their shell may contain something that are edible
