How to connect Kalk reactor to Water Top-up Box

Recommended Posts

Fistly my apologies if this is the wrong sub-forum to post my question. Also I hope the topic is not 'tick-tok-able'

If so, the Moderator is free to change the topic title or transfer it to the proper forum

I bought a second hand kalk reactor , tubby and pump. Susequently I bought a water top-up box.

Cookiemunster has tried to explain twice how to go about connecting the three. I'm very blurr.

This what I understand so far:

1. The pump inflow connects to the top pvc and the pump outflow connects to the

bottom pvc.

2. The Kalk outflow tube goes to the sump.

What I don't understand:

1. If the pump inflow and outflow acts as a loop to the Kalk; how do I get the

water from the top-up box into the Kalk?

2. And also, next to the Kalk outflow tubing, what's the other tubing with a green

'C'- clamp for?

Anybody got drawing to show?

The other thing is the Kalk lid is super tight, any suggestion on how to open it.

Thanks in advance.

P/S: For the record, I told Cookiemunster if he could provide me with a rough

drawing and to take his time but, I hope to get some help here soon.

Hi seangel,

hope this got to you in time for some much needed rest :)

First box on the right is the fresh water reservoir, the second is the kalk reactor, the third is the sump and the last box is the TUBBY.

The tubby detects water is low in sump and turns on any appliance plugged into it, namely the water reservoir pump in the container No 1. The pump activates, pumping small amounts of water into the kalk reactor. The pressure inside the KR rises, forcing a dissolved kalk mix out of the KR into the sump. The clapm at the end of the airline leading to the sump restricts the kalk flow to a few drops at any time, so as to minimize PH fluctuations should a huge load of high PH kalk be dumped in at once. However, if your tank is / sump is large enough, with a strong sikimmer located within the sump, I will actually drop the clamp- no problem of wide swings as the system can accomodate.

Hope this helps.

:)

Ooops forgot- the two bottom slots are for the pump. The purpose is only to stir up the kalk to maintain a dissolved solution at the top half of the reactor. It has no function other than that- it does not help to pump the kalkwasser into your sump. You will notice that a residue is often left in the bottom of the KR- this is the raw kalk. Over time, it will slowly dissolve as more fresh water in pumped in as your tank evaporates.

The two bottom slots are plugged into your circulation pump. Cookie advise turn it on (via timer) once an hour or so. The top one is for the intake of the tump, the bottom one is for the output- the idea so that raw kalk will not get sucked into the pump and choke it.
