Hi guys, I am setting up a 36x20x20 tank on a wrought iron stand of 1 inch thick. Having doubts that it can hold the weight.

Can anyone give some comments? Thks.

Well our boss AT are using metal stand. Sure there must be some plus point Just make sure you get a good quality one, and look out for spill. My DIY metal stand cost me $50 only, though Boss's one is FREE

Make sure the stand is weld probably. From a reefer here once told me that the internal thickness of the wrought iron is 2mm (3mm will be good), not strong enough for marine tank.

I remember have one such stand which after filling up with water and sand, the front 2 side joint BEND and nearly tear off

As for me I'm using 3mm thick steel square tube for my stand.

One word of advice strength of the stand is definitely there, but Rust will kick in sooner than you expect. Unless you powder coat with epoxy, which is quite expensive and troublesome.

Me regret too after using wrought iron stand, esp those "generic" type that is normally in LFS. One day I used a cloth to wipe the stand and to my horror, I literally wiped off the paint

There are things to skim on and things to spend, don't go cheap on the tank support if you are into this hobby for a long time........its a one time investment.

If you prefer wrought iron, go for the thickest you can afford and coat it well with anti-rust material......if not go straight for chengai wood support.
