i was told by one of the LFS that it's better to have less salt than more than enough salt. how true is this?

if the salt level is too low for a fish and shrimp only tank, what's the side effect that we can see? will the fish colour fade or something?

By lowering the salinity of the water, fishes does not get infected by ich and other disease. That is why some LFS may maintain their tank at that level.

Fishes brought from these shops has to be acclimatize very slowly back to normal salinity.

This cannot be done for invertibrate, they do not tolerate low salinity well.

Normal sg for tank

Fish only 1.018 ~1.025

Reef 1.023 ~1.025

This reading is also temperature dependent.

BTW what at what level did the LFS recommend?

Fishes will be ich-free if they are slowly acclimated to live in 1.009 sg over a few weeks, but observe them carefully. For inverts the 1.023-25 range is good.

But for most LFS the water is still too saline, and they probably just plonk the fish into the lowersalinity water which stresses them.
