Anybody regulating sharks-fin soup or turtle soup? How many turtles or sharks need to be killed for a single serving of sharks fin in a banquet for 1000 ppl in a 4 or 5 star hotel? anyone can give a rough guess?

Sigh! Was advise not to try! The custom checking is so intense these days.....the moment you alight the plane in Singapore, they setup a X-ray and body check before you can even reach the immigration counter! But I must say, the corals are really cheap!!! But surprisingly, yellow tang are expensive!!! They are consider imported fish!

I thought in turtle soup they use the freshwater softshell turtle? They use marine turtles?

I think they use any turtle they can find... hehehehe.. and not forgetting the tradition of eating turtle eggs...

yes.. turtle eggs.. of those that hatched and survived, barely 1% (i think) reaches maturity age before they start to breed... and we are not helping with the consumption.. err... i never tried one before and would not try it as well.. in fact, will not be having sharks fins for wedding dinner as well...

Quite good coverage I must say...except imported fish eg. yellow tangs, purple tangs and some nice angels.......

Think the aquarium trade has very small impact onb the shark population loh... Sharks fin soup is the main killer... anyway Oceanic black tips are in great abundance... Thats why u always only see oceanic black tips being sold in LFS... For turtle soup I think they only use freshwater Soft Shell turtles...

impact is still impact, regardless big or small.. who can keep a shark at home or sea turtle for that matter... it does not matter whether is there any impact but such creatures should not even be caught in the first place. They are meant to be in the ocean.

are you serious the whole of Indonesia celebrates Ascension Day? its a Catholic day of sorts whereby they celebrate the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. hmm.

and I always thought Indonesia was mainly an islamic state *hope I didn't say wrongly.*
