What is turtle weed?

Recommended Posts

Seen it quite often now at LSF. Happen to notice one which was turning white? Why does it change colour from green to white...is that normal?

Been trying to find out more about it but, can't seem to find good info on it.

Can anybody educate me on it.

Thanks.

it is just some sort of marine algae..... it turning white means that it is dying... do not under any circumstances buy it..... it will pollute ur tank.... well if u want to buy turtle weed....... no strong current... high light....... basically thats all i can think about.... oh yah.... when u want to by turtle weed.. choose the one with very light green leaves... and short leaves.... the longer and bigger ones are hard to maintain in captivity.... imo :peace:

Turtleweed is one of the most beautiful macroalgae out there but quite difficult to sustain long term as they will eventually turn white and melt.

They are also toxic in nature so very fishes will even eat it. I have seen a sea lettuce nudibranch of the same colour finish off a rock of turtleweed within a few days though!
