Have decided not to buy livestock for the time being, investing in equipments first. Here is the monster...main body is to hold my rowaphos & contraphos konzentrate, the add-on is to be filled with Reefez activated carbon. ;)

Can't wait to set it up tomorrow. Then it will be Bioplankton and coralplankton and GPs everyday...Muahaha.

what pump are you running now?

An underated 2970l per hour weipro 4000? Using it for return and the fluidized reactor now. Now the return rate to my tank very slow. Must start searching for a new pump.

oh, you Tee of the pump?

I just wonder what flow rate the reactor can take with 1kg of media :P

Ya..was set up as Tee off...but if have difficulty finding a higher capacity pump then maybe I get another dedicated pump just to run my returns. Then will have 2 submersed pumps in my sump..hopefully the temperature dun kill me.

probably for a FR this size a 1000 l/h pump should be sufficient, you could try a SICCE IDRA which should be really low power.

Oh ok..thanks..I was thinking somewhere around 2000+ l per hour.

Question: Wont the constant tumbling of the carbon result in very fine carbon particle and if its small enuff, will clog up the sponge or escape out of the compartment?

I don't think it would as the water flow through it is quite gentle and the fluidized reactor is not pressurized. Some small particles do escape into the sump initially during the tuning. But once you get the water flow in just right it would'nt be a problem anymore. For the activated carbon chamber I only fill it about 1/3 full. With the water flow adjusted the smallest particles only reach 50-60% of the chamber height. The rowaphos (500g) only occupies less than 1/10th of the height of the chamber. Smallest particles reach only 60-70% of the height of the chamber before falling again. B)
