me having the same pro.

but when i test with tap water, it is 0ppm.

Tetra test kit users,

I am using the same test kit

I am lucky.

My tank reading is between 12.5 mg to 25 mg with tetra No3 test kit.

The colour is light orange.

:D:D

Just brought a new NO3 Salifert test kit from Edmund as I am still not able to get it to below 12.5 mg. The best will be yellow in color.

The new Salifert test kit have a instruction sheet but not in English.

Still waiting for Edmund to scan and email to me the instruction. I will do a comparison with Tetra then.

:cry2::cry:

I use Tetra and Salifert Nitrate test kit. Salifert gives me 0.5 ppm, tetra fives me 25 ppm. I had been using Tetra all along and tried Salifert which gives me a much lower reading (happy) BUT when Woonming and Glare came to my place a couple of weeks back, his new nitrate measuring kit ( don't know what brand) gives me a reading of 30ppm, close or similar to my Tetra.

Maybe my salifert kit is faulty.

Hi Freedychin

Where is these Edmund shop, Ihad check Aquastar, Petmart, etc. Had not seen Salifert test kit, or anyone can advise? :thanks:

you can go to Reborn or Marine Life. they also sell Salifert test kits.

for information on these two places, go look for them on the threads on LFS Directory...probably in the same folder as Lifestock availability. (=

Well I am not a chemist but I use to study some and my work involved some chemistry.

First think about 1 ppm (part per million), it means 1/1000000, one over a million.

Second think about titration (if you still remember your secondary text :P, it means using a burette to drip into your sample for the purpose of quantitation of whatever substance). There is no titration method that I know off that has a confidence level down to ppm level using the highest precision standard and burette. Not to mention our test kits.

Third think about indicator. An indicator is a substance that changes colour according to the content of the solution. And to have such indicator blend that reacts to ppm concentration, I must say that it is "state of art" kind of chemical blend, well may be I am ignorant, but I do not think the tens of bucks will give us anything like that.

So IMO, our test kits serves as an indication at best, and no where near an absolute measure.
