anyone got sting by corals when handling them ?

Recommended Posts

Actually all corals will sting, it just depends on whether our skin is thin enough for the nematocysts to penetrate to cause real damage. Most corals won't be able to do much harm to human skin, with the exception of fire corals. Anyway, carpet anemones are quite strong in their sting, you don't feel the pain, but you can feel the 'stickiness'.

Some people have allergic reactions to corals too.

Always something more important than fish.

Been stung by both my green BTA and my bubble before. Got a red allergy reaction on my left arm after that... but it depends on individuals, i have sensitive skin, so i guess the reaction is more obvious for my case...

 i was at ML about 2 months back...

i saw something that looked like a mushroom,

except that the texture was rougher.

i just exclaimed that it was cute, looked like mouldy bread

then i touched it....(it was placed in the ricordea tub)

i thought i felt a sting, but then mushies dun sting right?

so i tickled it again...

this time i felt the sting distinctly.

i asked henry what it was, he told me:

"heh heh, Hellfire anemone...DUN touch it,

UNLESS you have an affinity for pain :P "

of cos, by then too late liao...

He was good enough to rinse my finger, with disinfectant soap but

my finger was already swollen, bit numb yet painful in some places :(

was a weird feeling.

i went to the toilet...then peed on my finger

honest!! but not mush relief

My wife spent the whole day laughing though :D

till today, there's still abt 20 odd little marks on my left finger

where i got stung
