inside DSB got black black stuff

Recommended Posts

Probably time to get more critters for your sand bed. Those type which don't burrow too deep. Hopefully their movements help to release the gas slowly rather than allow a buildup. Not sure what animals would be appropriate as I'm not using DSB in my main tank..

No disturbance as in disturbance on a human or fish scale. If it's in the microfauna scale it would be beneficial. Denitrifying bacteria work in an anaerobic zone. It's not completely anoxic. Some oxygen still needs to be present for burrowing microfauna to survive. Actually between grade 1 and grade 0 sand I would prefer grade 1. Grade 0 seems too compact for stuff to burrow in.

i think the bubble is the end product of NNR. nitrogen ;) which mean ur sand bed is geting mature and it is working hard to bring down ur nitrate.

so dun worry be happy. the bubble will slowly move up and eventually gone. as long as there is nitrate in ur tank this process will carry on. i think the black patch will go and come. it is a good sign i think :peace:

mine is like that too..but after the black stuffs gone, there will be some light stains bits and bits there..very difficult to scrab it away..

i thinky my goby and pistolshrimps are disturbing it by digging quite deep under.. hope they wouldnt change house..

i have learn that dsb is better to have it behind the tank and infront a thinner seabed.

well if u see crystal hard stuff forming in your sandbed... then can start working...

else I think it's still best to intro some worm into the sandbed.. they help alot...

Lai leh lai leh......let's organise a worm digging section during the low tides morning on one of the weekends.......I know a good spot in punggol where there're worms, crabs, snails, live rocks.............hehehe
