I got mine from ML too, if i'm not wrong it's the mixed resin bed type and it's in a white pvc tube. Just run water slowly through 1 end and it trickles out from the other. RockyBoy, it's just an alternative to RO water .. supposed to remove most ions including phosphates and all the other nasties that you don't want to put into your tank. I'm a little skeptical over it's value after 1 year or so of usage - still getting diatom blooms occasionally, but could have been my feeding/filtration/simply using the unit wrongly, eg. the water flow may have been too high for it to be efficient. In any case, Henry very graciously (as usual!) offered to help see if the resin is still in good condition by testing its ORP (or something like that).

Its not ORP, But TDS.The resin would have exhausted a long time ago for the fact that IF you had been using it for more than a year
