ok... using UV will be beneficial... why ??? because it will kill viruses or bacteria..... lets not forget these units cant tell the difference between good and bad bacteria.... so they kill both....... my point is u can use uv to sterilise the water...but dont on it for too long.... max 2 hrs a day........ thisis just a reminder..... ignore it if u know it already :off::D

one more thing....... u must also know what caused the itch in the first place....... most probably stress..... so i think before u buy a uv set..... i reccomend u to change water first... as much as possible and recycle your tank first...... if that does not work... then by all means go for the UV... since u dont have any fish.....i think shouldnt be a problem right ?????:peace:

hi bro, thanks for the advise..i did a 20% water change..

infact the problem got worst.

my old fishes use to scratch themself once awhile for many months..so i assume i had whitespot in my tank long ago..

so now everytime i add a newfish...it cant survive long..

its impossible to catch out all the fishes as they live in/under the rocks or bury in the sand..

that is why i thought of investing in a uv..as im dosing a reef safe medicine by waterlife..but its kind of expensive..i need to dose alot for the volume of my tank..in long turn run i see the UV more cost saving..

what do you think?

What fish are you keeping?

I challenge myself by keeping a powderblue surgeon in a small tank.

- changed water and running with filter to ensure good water movement

- use fan to keep the temperature cooler

- use UV, even on 24hr to desperately kill all bacteria

- added waterlife octazin

- freshwater dip

- feed brineshrimp soaked with garlic guard, fish is eating

My conclusion, still cannot get rid of the ich. The ich will go away after 2-3 days, in which it will come back again the next day. Luckily I didn't put the fish in main tank.

So good luck to you if you are keeping the ich magnet fish.

Tank 4x2x2.5

I've had discussions with people about UV killing good and bad bacteria and I've come to one conclusion. it may be wrong, but I guess it was the only conclusion I can draw. UV will only help against free floating bacteria which happen to be in that small volume of water which got sucked in.

so I just leave my on for 24hrs a day. can't be bothered about what kill good bacteria and bad bacteria. unless its proven to me without a shadow of a doubt that all the beneficial bacteria like de-nitrifying bacteria float around the water. until then.

just get the UV. no harm investing in it to keep the tank a little bit more safe. but if you have the cash to burn, get Ozone. (=

Reddevils....Petmart doesn't sell the Coralife Turbo Twist...not that I can recall.

get yours from EAquarist.

my 4ft by 2ft by 2.5ft tank is "cleansed" by a 6x....so go get it.

and its cheap and value for money, considering the prolong contact time. (=
