pls for goodness sake remove the dead clam immediately!!! will it give out disease or not..... that i dunno..... but it will certainly rot in ur tank and post high nitrates and phosphate in time......

u also dun get dreaded clam disease juz bcoz ur clam was not attached to a pcs of LR.

keep a close watch on the rest of ur LS these few days.......

dun want another reefer to end up like me and bro scarab..... where our tank sucumbbed to the dreaded clam disease....... we lost abt 30 to 40 clams combined!!!!

juz me 2 cents. ;)

cant help as i dunno your system ..or spend day and night with your system..

can be many reasons....

maybe it was damaged during harvesting and it was dying a slow death...

in that case it's not your tank's problem...

can be predators in the tank...can be parameters....can be it doesn't like the position so much so that it slowly refuse to open the mantle and die...many many reasons...dunno where to start..and dunno which is the real reason

i cannot pinpoint any reasons no matter how much or how little i know about clams..hehe

Yeah,

I had a total of 8 (4 baby maxis & 4 large croceas) die within a span of 6 mths. :cry2: My water parameters are excellent so .. someone mentioned maybe becos my lighting: 2 x MH150 + 2 x 24W blue actinics pendant is hung too high from the top of the tank to hv sufficient light pass through 3 ft to the bottom where the clams lay. Can someone comment on this?

Hmm so its a trend that clams are dying :lol::lol: One word of warning.. those that bought clams especially from recent shipment(dun care from which lfs). pls check that your clams are not affected by pyramid snail as i notice recently the clam from new clam shipment brought in some hitch hiking pesky snails...... pyramid snail are very tiny snail ard the size of a rice grain and they are no monster to be mess with......... Treatment is none :D:D and only biological method of removal through using certain juv coris(clown coris is the fish i have lots of success with) or leopard wrasse

you can physically remove the snails, but that is only if there are on the clams....read from the net 6 line wrasse prey on these snails.....not did not succeed because my wrasse died in QT.... :(
