i added an addition tank to my current 2 ft ios system..

use a pump to draw the water down to the extra tank and another pump to draw back to the main tank. at first, got problem adjusting the flowrate and the extra tank flood water flow all over then after some adjustment.. finally done! hmm

when i off the pump in the main tank tat draw the water down. pressure still draw the water down.. got some problem here... so scare my tank get flooded then GONE! haa

any comment?? hmm

add addition tank so can have more water volume and temperature will be cooler

No it's not done. It's impossible to get it tuned right unless you have an automated system that monitors flowrate and water level. The reason has been gone over many many times. Basically, there will be a slight disparity in the flow rate that is imperceptable immediately but on the long run, one tank will over flow while the other run dry.

haha i try ur method before but it is not going to work lah ...

firstly , even if u get two similar pump with the same flow rate ... their actual flow rate will be different due to construction error....then it will result to flooding ,

secondly , even if u adjust the flow rate till jun jun with valve...with time, the flow rate of the two pump will be different again then what happen , flooding again ...the worst is happen when u are not at home ...

thirdly use two pump increase heat unnecceassary , maybe u using chiller la.

to help u solve ur problem, get a ibox from our sponsor and only use one return pump, everythin will be solve ... not to mention flooding as it work by the principal of gravity....

just my 2 cent ;) ,

maybe it will work for ur present situation but not for a long run .......

Kee. I have a refugium side by side to my sump.. a pump will draw water from the sump to the refugium.. and the water will flow back to the sump through a hole at the top of refugium.. So you don't need to bother much about controlling the flowrate, as long as the hole size can cope with the water flow in.. So far running for 6mths. No problem at all.

mine already is an IOS wat for i get ibox.

I think my set up shld be fine right.. I tink I need to explain. Haha with a picture

my tank is a IOS system.. water go in to the Filter chamber and then is being pump back to the tank. I tink this system is very common. So now instead of pumping back to the tank to complete a filtration cycle I pump the water down to a addition tank. I added this tank so there is addition water volume to my tank. Another pump is place in the addition to pump the water back.

Actually I already planned a backup for this system. If the pump from the main tank break down, water will be pump from the addition tank to the main tank and filled it up till the addition tank run dry too.. I calculate the water level it will not flood the main tank.

And if pump frm the addition tank break down. Water will stop pumping to the main tank and if there is no water pump into the main tank the overflow chamber will dry up upon the pump drawing water to the addition tank. Can this work??

Even if the main tank pump break down, gravitational force will still draw the water down.
