light in refugium

need some advice from u all again .... er, just create a refulgium in my sump , as for the light , on for 24/7 or just like the normal photo period in the main tank ...thanks

I turn mine on 24/7. Heard that some reefers turn on their lights only when the lights in the main tank are off.

On it 24/7 so tat most of the algae growth will be concentrated in ur refugium.

It depends on individual ... but if on 24/7 ..you need to purne it daily ..am i right to say that..and need mantainence on the light as well

Juz remove watever macroalgae u deem to have overgrown. As for light.> wats there to maintain abt...juz buang when spoil.

buang... rich man wha... i mean after 24/7 and 30days a mth..soon the light will lose its effectiveness...but yar..i agree with you larh..24/7 is better..

Its all up to individuals. I use to have my refugium light comin on after my main tank light goes off but find it not appropriate. To me, the above works like> main tank light on so encourage algae growth in it. Then off and refugium light came on for the growing of macroagale. IMHO, i believe plants like human chose the easy way out....if providing them light continueously thru out. They will chose to grow in tat location which is favourable rather then a On off on off = grow stop grow stop places so i rather on my refugium light 24/7 to concentrate watever algae growth in the refugium continueously, be it nusiance or macro algae.

Btw, a normal PL shd last u thru out the year.....to me the PAR value is impt to corals but not to algae. I m using the 150W AB10k for my refugium and this bulb to me has been decommisioned long time ago and i m still using it for my refugium. So far so good, dun see any retarted growth of my macroalgae at all.

I think mine goes on for 16 hours.. before the MH turns on and after the MH offs...

okie , from what i gather it is better to on for 24/7 right ?? i would want the best for the condition of my tank and i dun mind changing the bulb over time.... wow, got so many different kind of opinion , just wanna reduce my nitrate level to the min.... thanks guys for your valuable advice!
