Will Kalk Paste Kill Crabs?

Hi guys,

I lost 2 firefishes recently.. no corpse, not stuck in overflow or whatever.. I suspect they were snatched by stray crabs who attacked them while they slept...

Recently spotted one or two crabs but they didn't fall for my trap, neither was I nimble enough to catch them with pincers..

So I went to stir up some kalk paste placed it in a syringe and shot into the hole containing the crab... didn't see the crab come out but it could be that it escaped through another hole or something..

So the thing is.. does kalk paste kill crabs? Or can they withstand it?

Thanks...

Ervine

It may not kill them as they will probably squeeze themselves out of the hole or run away somehow.

Use a chopstick to crush them. :)

'generally' crabs will ignore fish that are healthy and alive. There are a few predatory crabs but most are scavengers. The more likely scenario is that your fish died and it's carcass was carried off and consumed. Therefore, it may well be possible that your crab was doing your tank a favour.

Possible.. but I saw for myself that it was going after my sri lankan scooter blenny when it stopped to rest near the crab...

Can't hyposaline the rock coz it doesn't stay in one place leh... and usually it peeks out from the rocks hidden below...

I tend to agree with Guinness that crab tend to ignore healthy fishes.

My blue tang usually park itself almost horizontally in between the gap of 2 rocks to sleep every night but no crab will come and pinch/disturb its sleep.

I do see a few stray crabs every now and then and will use the bottle trick to get them out. Try tying ur prawn meat to a small weight n put in the bottle so it wont float away. ;)

i have a crab problem too..

kalk wun kill them as they usually have an alternate

escape route...crafty buggers <_<

some crabs will attack fishes, esp if you dun feed much.

i tried the glass bottle method but

i found that prawn meat was largely ignored,

so i went to the LFS and asked for their freshly dead fish.

i used the head of a naso tang, (guy was dead,k. no flames please)

the next day, i found 2 LARGE buggers, a pistol shrimp

plus my emerald crab ( they're NOT herbivores! )

i found that crabs tend to reach in first before they climb in,

try weighing it down with a stone or something

usually i put a small piece in,

usually the head.

place at night, then take out first thing in

the morning so as to prevent ammonia spike.

then feed the buggers to my trigger
