Hi,

I'm new...having a question....what should be done when just purchase some LR from LFS.....

Wash? Clean? etc......:P

Scrub it down with a clean brush to remove the scum and stuff, any rotting substance on the rocks does contribute to the cycle. You may find some sponge, u can keep it if you like.

Keep it wet it constantly while you're at it, a spray bottle will do fine.

You may wanna take some time to inspect the rocks while cleaning (the ocean smell will keep you intoxicated) and rid the LR of some of the undesirable inhabitants such as mantis (sorry mantis lovers... :P )

Some suggest aerating the rocks with an airpump in a quarantine bucket or tank, apparently these critters will leave their hidey-holes
