Missing....

I noticed that one of my clownfish is missing...searched the whole tank for it...Surprisingly, cant even find the carcass. It was healthy and was swimming well. I really wonder wat happened..Do u guys have any idea?

Anyway, do u all think its fine for me to buy a new clown to add in the tank? I hope it will not fight with each other.

there may be crabs...I once witnessed two hermit crabs shredding the skin of my small clownfish...

or check your overflow? sump?

Very likely that they will 'spar' unless you get a bigger size one to allow it to fend for itself...

I also suspect that its the crab. But I find it rather odd that there is not even a trace left of it..

Scavengers finish up the body faster than you think.

I ever have a 2.5" firefish disappear without trace, no bones also!

is there any cleaner shrimps or wad?..if not it may be the crabs tt are finishing off the dead body..

Dead fishes do not float....at least mine don't anyway. Most shrimps and hermits normally only finish up the carcess and do not attack healthy fishes....

Erm, depending on how big your tank is and how big the dead fish is really. For me, removing all my LRs trying to find a dead fish isnt really an option.

does doing a water change help?

I dun like the idea of removing all my rocks .. really difficult to stack them nicely, not worth the trouble if there's an easier method.

Doing a water change will definately help if you are worried about your parameters....meanwhile there should be nothing much of a body left if you have scavangers like crabs, prawns or hermits in your tank...

the scavengers work real fast...lost a yasha goby, firefish, royal gramma before in my old nano... suspect it was a mantis... anyway the tank crashed and i made sure for my new nano, i made sure no nasty scavengers hitch hiked

Give u 2 scenarios:

1) If its still alive (if u hope so), check your sump tank, ur cotten wool filter (if u have any of these). It might been small enough to get sucked into the pipe and landed up there. My buddy's goby went missing without a trace, and he found the fish in the middle of pieces of cotten wool in his filter above tank. He was cleaning the filter and taking out the cotten wool when something drop out and is struggling about without water... Its his missing GOBY!!! Survived inside for 1 month plus.

2) If its dead, it sinks first, if ur cleaning crew (crabs / hermits) is fast enuf / hungry enuf, its prolly eaten up. If not, it starts to rot and gases in its stomach builts up... and it will eventually float up.

check your overlfow bro. My nemo suddenly went missing without a clue and i start suspecting this and that but it acually survive for a week hiding behind in the bioballs compartment.
