Newbie questions

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm about to start cycling my IM Nuvo 10 tank this weekend :yahoo:

As it's my first time setting up a marine tank, there are several questions that I would like to ask you guys and hopefully you guys are willing to share these informations with me.

1) Is Hailea HS-28A an overkill for a nano tank my size?

2) Would you guys recommend using chemipure Blue to reduce organic compounds and phosphates? If not, what are the other alternatives?

3) With tank size this small, is in still necessary to have a protein skimmer since i'm planning to do a water change every week (trust me I will, kinda forced by CO with OCD)

4) Whats the optimal flow rate for a tank this small? And do I need a wavemaker if I get a pump that has a flowrate of 700++ litres and use IM spin stream nozzle?

TIA!

Welcome to world of reefing.

1) No point getting a chiller, take space and cost electricity. 10G tank use a 4 heads fan is enough liao. Unless u planning for future upgrade or having sensitive coral. Just get a auto top up to solve the evaporation issue.

2) Yes, is gd to use. U can also consider purigen is u want to be more cost saving as it can recharge.

3) if u got the budget, u can look at the bubble magus small skimmer. About 90 to 100.

4) If u want SPS then MP10 will be gd else don't need.

1) Are you putting the tank in a air con room? Otherwise Hailea 28A is a good choice. It is overkill but currently on the market there isn't any chiller that is reliable for a cheaper price. So might as well go with hailea 28a.

2) Would be good to run chemi-pure blue.

3)No, don't need a skimmer. Just tons of good quality media like siporax will do. I recommend doisng Aquaforest Pro Bio F as it is excellent for nano tanks to help with controlling nutrients.

4)Flow rate just use the pump that comes with the IM10. If you are keeping sps, can add a MP10 or small jebao wavemaker.
