Hi,

Got a friend who has this problem. New fishes die on the 7th day after introducing into the tank. Example of fishes are flame angel, sailfin tang, bt and pbt. Only survivors are chomises, gobies and shrimps. Has octo and hammer doing well in the tank. Parameters are NH4 - 0, NH2 - 0, NH3 - 10. Water tested with salifert test kits. Using 150w mh and chiller keeps water at ard 27degrees. anyone has any idea why this is so?

Thanx.

1) cyanide poisoning?

2) no proper quarantine from source?

3) Esp. for tangs...preferably to quarantine them or not to introduce to newly set-up system.

My two cents' worth... :P

Even tried getting from CF. U mean my friend did'nt quarantine prperly or the LFS?

Thanx.

hhhmmm....all those fishes listed are new?? did he add all the fishes in 1 shot?? then it is more likely to be ammonia spike, maybe by the time he measure the parameters, all of it has settled down....

Added only one fish at any one period. Any advise?

all the tangs are quite difficult to maintain....especially pbt....hhhhhmmmmm.....

only survivors are chromis and hardy fishes....hhhhhmmmmmm

only thing i can think of is poor water parameter....hhhhhmmmmmm

but i dunno which one......hhhhhhmmmmmmm

I GIVE UP!!!!

:D:D:D

I'm puzzled too...tried buying another salifert NH4 test kit but also showed zero reading.

Flame angel, sailfin tang, bt and pbt need mature and stable tank six months and above. I believe that may be the cause.

Are the fishes eating well during all these 7 days? It can be due to starvation that leads to weakness and finally death.

Improper pH level (below 8.0) can also be a cause for concern.

Symptoms are not consistent. Sometimes the fishes feed well and finally just go missing. Other times the fish suddenly refuse to eat and die within one or two days.

Might be diseases that the other fish have resistance to. Happened so to my yashias too. Other fishes were unaffected. What symptoms do the fish show? Do they exhibit laboured breathing with decreased appetites?

Always something more important than fish.

could be the source of LS he got.

I know one place where the stock n introduction to tank not as follow by book, but lazy sometimes to go LFS weekend. so just get, fatality rate from that shop could be as high as 70-80%.

Parameter of your fren tank could be oki, but from wat I read, alot of flame angels were not net caught, so survival rate is not good. They

also prone to ich n many are carriers.
