Have anybody have any idea as how to bring down silicate besides the following.

Changing of water

Rowaphos - to bring down Phosphate

AZ-NO3 - to bring down Nitrates

?????? - to bring down Silicate

Silicate can result in diatom bloom and can block some essential trace elements such as vanadium and molybdenum

I think you dont really have to do anything. the diatom will use up the silicate present in the water and within a month, it should be gone.

I am experiencing the same problem with silicate. Whenever I changed water, I will always have diatoms bloom, it will usually subside in about two week but unfortunately that is also the time I need to do water change again.

I am contemplating using RO but feel that it is to ex for me. Any bro here can advise?

Mine Diatom dosen't go off, instead it spread and when lights is off its seem better but when lights is on, it slowly comes back again. duno wat to do???? I'm changing water every week but no improvement. Hope some bro can advise. Thanks

If you don't use RO water for water change then everytime you change water, you introduce Silicate and you guess end up what happen?

The diatoms will be there forever.

Try using Rowaphos.

Extend the use of Actinic lightings and cut back on white lights......feed less, introduce a black sea cuke and algae blenny.

You can consider using distilled water to do water change too. if you need large quantity, can contact those commercial distilled water supplier... i think distilled water has no impurities like silicate or nitrate/phospate present..

distilled drinking water...

Evian water has nitrates and silicates presence. maybe coz it comes from the French Alps, supposedly.

so do check the contents before pouring blindly.

lab standard distilled water...I don't know. never test before. (=

my diatoms came back when i forgot to add anti-chlorine during my water change.....sigh

Well..from the last time I dumped a $60+ bottle of rowa into my sump...seems to be working..no more diatom bloom. Still will have slight growths on the glass and sand though, especially after water change. But normally clears up after 2-3 days.

cyan can look brownish.... the tell tale normally is the spreading when lights on n disappearing abit when lights off
