Are hermits killing my snails?

Hm.. it seems that my snail death rate is rather constant... could it be that my hermits are killing them thinking they can use their shells?

Coz I've noticed that the emtied out snail shells for some reason fell near some empty hermit shells as well...

My hermits are really small, dwarf hermits, snails are turbos...

My Hermits don't bother the snails at all. BUT some snails died and I caught the culprit one night. It was a crab that has been digging the snails out of their shells and eating them alive! It grabbed the snail shell with one claw and digged the snail out and ate them with the other!!!

I've never seen the crab in the day before! He only came out when the lights are off. I have already taken him out and threw him back into Pasir Ris mangrove swamp. Hope he's happier there!

Btw, there are other crabs in my tank and so far they seem quite ok. The culprit looked like a mud crab but only smaller.

Hermits will most likely kill snails to use their shells when they outgrew theirs. You might wanna provide them bigger empty shells in the tank so they can "move house" when its time to do so.

definately is the hermit crab~~ mine kana kill by my hermit crab sia... now end up left 1 snail.... they will attack when the snail are crawling on the sand bed whereby the hermit can easily get hold of the snail underneath and eat it......waste my money~~~ argh~

If you have a lobster like mine, that's the number 1 snail killers......

hermits do kill snails.... i lose a few to my scarlet hermit....

but scarlet hermits are big... mine are tiny zebra hermits leh...

Don't think I have a lobster.. hehe... shucks, will set a crab trap soon to get rid of hitchhikers
