i always think the controller box should be situated away from potential leakage. My next tank i would design it to be beside / or slightly abv the overflow with a wooden plank partioning it, almost like another door within the drawer. Haha. Hard to explain. A door within a door, door ception. 

 

But nonetheless. Very impressive build to incorporate the water change system within the capentry. Good idea for my next build. 

Think that’s the most convenient space available to house e controllers and still keep stuff hidden.

At least there’s a wooden box to house the wires  My current tank hor.. all e plugs and wires are in a mess and subjected to splashes and condensation from my sump tank! Guess most other tanks will suffer similar fate if their union fails, pipe leaks or fishes jump have to pray hard haha

The sump is generally an unconventional design, with a long refuigum compartment that we do not know what exactly to do about it yet.. would it be to keep new fishes as a feeding training ground, or to keep it as a species tank, for picky eaters such as seahorses or frogfishes, or even a possible frag tank in future..

Nonetheless the photo shows the basic set of equipment, which probably is still short of the macroalgae reactor from Skimz and a dosing pump if the tank is ready for hard corals.. hope it will stay neat and clean throughout the lifespan of this tank!!

Hmmm. The constant vibration by the pump would disintegrate the marine pure bit by bit.

U could consider using a acrylic stand or ask the tank maker to help you make a skimmer stand. Thats what i asked my tank maker to do and it wasnt expensive.

There is a risk the skimmer might fall off and the water will be skim directly onto the floor.

Ops, din realised this photo was taken then. That was temporary. The skimmer was just running in. Now its standing just on the egg crate stand.

Yup. thats why I had to fix it up with a stand. especially cuz the sump water level was deliberately kept higher than usual to allow more water volume.

right now after the skimmer has run in, its more stable and I can adjust the water controller level lower to dry skim.

U can go to some fresh water lfs to purchase a huge sheet for i think $20odd dollar, roughly 422 size iirc. But u need to find the right kind, the rigid type. There is another softer kind which ppl use, those that can piece them up into a bigger piece. I suggest you stay away from that, that is too weak to support the skimmer weight.

Yup. And buy some pvc pipes as “legs” for the stabd, cable tie them up.

Backtracked to the day the tank is filled with water. For this RODI with booster pump, it really took an amazing short period of time to fill up the tank. I was thinking more than a day but within 10 hours e tank is filled. Guess u guys can tell the rate of the water from e photo below..

anyway, really love the rocks from Caribsea. Not very good with scaping the caribsea branching rocks. Ended up with a scape that look like a dragon  haha but the shapes of the base rocks and arcs are beautiful, with lotsa cervices that will make it very easy to stick corals. Would highly recommend the rocks to Reefers building a new scape!

heres e view of the scape with all 3 sides! The caribsea Bimini pink sand is beautiful too, picked this for e small red pebbles that makes it more natural, and give some weight to the finer sand to prevent them from flying around

Heard some good reviews about the Skimz Macroalgae reactor.. so decided to try it with this new tank build. Has a nice outlook and an opaque exterior that keeps the light in and looks cool.. has a clear top view which you can see the chaeto and e flow inside

the reactor is pretty easy to set up. Has adjustable speed to moderate the flow rate and lots of space for chaeto to grow. Here is the initial amount of chaeto in e reactor.
