i got a problem...

when i run my MD 55... my tank starts to fill up more and more.... threaten to overflow.... then my sump gets lesser and lesser water....

urgh!!!

any advice?? flatten PVC pipe to kill the power??? or just change smaller pump???

Don't waste the pump by teeing off back into the sump.

You can always tee off a few pipes to run a calcium reactor, a skimmer, or even a gravity-flow back refugium.

Alternatively, you can increase the size of your overflow pipes so water is returned back quickly into the sump, equalizing the water flowthru volume rate. ;)

how long will PVC glue dry???

minimum time??

cant wait to test the plumbing now.... if still cannot... then me gotta get smaller pump liaoz...

i following dradttg's method first...

just see if it works.... my main concern now is not to overflow the main tank.... once i more settle down and decide to go SPS... then... i get a calcium reactor...

Hope you'll be patient to let your skills and your tank mature first before you attempt SPS. ;)

It's not as straightforward & easy for beginners, I can tell you that. They need a LOT of dedication and care.

So are you intending to upgrade more of your equipment?

upgrade of equipment?? hm....

depends.... see if i intend to go SPS or not lohz....

if go SPS... then calcium reactor, kalk reactor, nuclear reactor....

me still noobie ahz....

me target now only softies and fishes...

still undecided on fishes.... thinking of lions... find it damn interested when they feed.... frog fish too... *looks at volitan* :P but still undecided....

initially wanted to do tang tank....

btw... mine is 5ft by 3ft by 2 ft tank... will post pics when tank more presentable..... now still intial stage....

ur setup tells me tat ur suction is too strong for ur discharge.the pump is in starvation of water.some tips,

-install a ball v/v after ur pump(to reduce flow to main tank)

-increase the size or number of pipings from ur main tank to have more flow, back to ur sump.

dun wori the md 55 is centrifugal pump tats has high flow but low pressure so the question whether it will "gravitate"(strong backflow pressure tat will spoil ur impeller) ur pump is negligible. ;)

md 55 is a pressure rated pump with moderate flow. it seemed to be high flow because it can deliver its rated flowrate through the setup heads within your system better than a normal powerhead which has equal or higher flowrating.

Dun think it is a good idea to reduce your return flow. Given your tank size, you should increase the size of your overflow pipe instead. ;)

but if i increase the size of the overflow pipe... won't i have to drill a bigger hole in my tank???

i dun think it is the overflow... i got ur problem too. if return pump too powerful, the tank fills to the brim. this is becos the water needs to be of certain height before it can flow into the overflow. what i did was break away some of the "teeth" to allow more flow from main to overflow box. lesson learnt. give up to 1" for water to fill above ur overflow box!
