2.5 X 1 X 1.5 marine tank Setup

Hi all,

Planing to setup a 2.5 X 1 X 1.5 marine tank. Is 6mm of glass thickness sufficience? or have to use 8mm? Is euro bracing require on 2.5 ft tank? please advise thanks

at least 12mm..if nt u may risk a tank crash, ie mirror cracks...

tot 12mm is for 4ft and above?? mine only 2 ft le, need 12mm of glass?

Yes...6mm should be sufficient. But it would be safer to go with 8mm sides and a 8 or 10mm base.

i always believe in being kiasu...

some pple even use 6mm glass for 3X1.5X1.5 (my old tank) but now using 10mm for my 3X1.5X2(height).

2ft tank with 6mm glass should be sufficient ina sense the silicon has enuf contact space to curb the water pressure but wat most fear is falling LRs and corals that might cause cracks in the glass and of coz the inevitable flooding in your house....

to sum up, i think 6mm should be enuf but becareful of falling LRs, be 100% sure that your placement of LR is as sturdy as possible....

as for the euro=bracing, it serves not only to withstand tall tanks but also the convinience of holding some necessary equipments like lights and fans...i think to euro-bracing addition should not cost u much, get it, should come in handy....be kiasu and u won't have to worry about flooding....

My 36" (L) x 24" (H) x 20" (D) is 8mm sides and 10 mm base. With bracing along the sides.

Hm.. the thicker the glass the more refraction... might be not so visually nice.. but hey it's safer..

My 2.5x1.5x2 is 10mm with single sided eurobracing

6 mm shpuld be enough but if cash is no problem I prefer to go for 8 mm.

for me,i'll go for 8mm if i were you....but 6mm also quite ok if you not going to put lots of stuff in the tank....

Should be enough - my fowlr tank same dimension as yours Just that mine is using black silicon, which is supposed to be stronger.

Any comment on my 2 ft tank design? please advise. I will consider 8mm glass. How much is a 2ft 8mm tank? is it alot more expensive compare to 6mm?

IMO, 8mm glass is gotta be more expensive than 6mm. lyk u buying a small cup of drink as compared to buying a larger cup of drink!
