Guys, i have a problem with my DIY sump, the pipe where i use it for return from sump, seems to be ###### the water down from the main tank once the powerhead in the sump is off, anyway i can counter this problem? it's the elbow tat is ###### in the water, i noe it's by gravitational force.. how shld i prevent water from going back to the sump if the pump is spoilt or off? :( i sense flooding will come soon..

Make a hole near the top of the elbow. The hole should be just below your normal level of water in the main tank. In this way if your return fails, the water level will decrease and the air will be sucked from the hole and the water flow will stop.

Drill a tiny hole at the elbow of your return pipe just below the surface of the water and when the pump stop, the water level will lower and when it reach the hole it wil break the siphon of the water down to your sump.

i hve seen some tanks which the hole is on top of water level

Yah! My new tank came with the hole drilled above the waterline; next thing u know when u on the pump, a fountain to beat the Merlion occurs!

Shot a jet of water from my tank onto my dining room floor! @#$X^#^%$!!! :P

Had to go back and get a replacement joint with no hole (I position nozzle very near the water line now to create ripples effect and get very nice shadows playing across the LR/corals).

Cheers!
