My algae blenny staring into space

Would like to know from those who keep algae blenny. Are they an inactive swimmer? Coz mine just perch on the LR and stares into space. Im wondering if anything is wrong. Had him for a couple of days.

heh. mi lawnmower is quite active, going here n there munchin on bits of stuff on rock.

He does move around but most of the time just stares into space. Usually on the same few LR. Have yet to see him swim around in the tank. Sometimes I even see him on the same place for hours! Sigh... I bought a meditating blenny.

he is thinking to commit suicide but estimating how much strength he has to release in order to jump out of the tank. He wants freedom, rather die than being jailed.

Think it is quite normal... Mine also like that... It will munch on the algaes and go back to the same LR and stay there liao...

I suspect that the blenny saw you approaching and stopped for a while waiting for you to make a move. Mine does the same... but when it realises that you are not a threat than it starts to chow down on algae again...

My blenny used to just watch me when I am near the tank. Their eyes can rotate quite a bit which makes them look like muppets.

maybe give it some time to get use to you watching him before he actually gets down to chomping on your LR....

Some of my fish used to have such habits too...that's how I end up talking to them...

My long-nosed hawk...my dartfish...my cowie...my boxfish...my mandarin...

Ok an update on my meditating blenny *hommmmm~*.

Bought a 4stripe damsel today and the blenny seems more alife now. Seems like he is protecting his LR! Chasing the damsel away when he gets too close. And I thought the damsel IS suppose to be the aggressive one! Sigh again... I bought a meditating AND fierce blenny.

Not to worry this fish is very hardy and it is normal behaviour for this fish to rest on the LR

Thanks for the info. As the algae blenny is the 1st marine fish I bought, you can imagine how "excited" I was when he just laze around whole day and me wondering when is he gonna belly up and croak.

Not surprised, you will spend more time looking at your tank. BTW always check out you livestock, both corals and fishes for compatability before purchasing, do some research first. Once the new fish goes in and create havoc, you will have a tough time taking it out.
