harlequin spotted mating

My harlequin shrimps paired off and was spotted mating a couple of times.

i wonder if they breed in capvities..? anyone with experiences?

and my anemone shrimps has lay its eggs.. there are some crawly things in the tank wall now... are they the baby shrimps.. ??

Hi Bro,

Imo, just let them be live fish food. The hasle of breeding them plus the chance of survival is definitely daunting, e.g separating them into a specific tank, feeding them rotifers, etc.

yah i'm not doing anything special to it... but so happens that they got sucked into my refugism... all of them in the refugism now... no fish there so they are safe ..

as for the harlequin... ?? i maybe try to do a nusary for them ... really love my harlequins ..

and those 2 fellows really eat like pigs... 3 star fishes in a week..

From what I have read so far, you might need a tank that is of low current and need to feed different type of plankon to Baby Brine shrimp. Hope someone who have tried can advise you on these.

You harlequin eat so much? Man.... maybe you should start controlling their diet.

yah but they are really big.. near to 2 inches... just gave them a star on sunday... finish one leg yesterday... super fast eaters..

have to cut down to 2 stars a week... or maybe this new star i bought not so nice to eat ... as they are eating slower ...

last week i feed them with chocolate chip and blue star.. this week i feed them with greyish kind of star fish..

but i keep my harlequin and star in another container not into the main tank... like those seperater tank like that ..

Doesn't ur harlequin kill the blue star after a day or two? I tried mine with blue star b4 and it kill it in a few days. I think the greyish starfish is the sand sifting sea star. Do note that choc star is not reef safe and since yous is separated then its should be fine.

The male normally only mates with the female after the female has moulted. I caught my female releasing harlequin fry one night before..din catch them out as I was too busy...left them as fish food and coral food..took a few blur pics of them..somewhere in my tank thread..

yah!! u are rite!! the female molted that morning that evening caught mating liao ... looks like i have to keep a close watch jsut like this ... never blink an eye ... make sure i get the eggs ..
