Does UV Light help in control of ICH?

Hi all, trying to find out the effectiveness of the UV light in controlling/treating ich... seems dat everyone has conflicting opinions... Kindly take part in the poll ot post any contribution here...

Using the 12x coralife turbo twister in my 4ft now.

No more ich outbreak. Even newly introduce salifin tang also no white spots seen.

Read somewhere that the UV will introduce a very small amount of O3 and that helps with the white spots.

but i read somewhere they say it kill gd bacteria too......make me confuse to get 1 or not

yup, the UV kills both good and bad bacteria tats why it is not advisable to keep in on all the time...

one incident when my friend used the UV on his tank and the next day, most his LS died....so i also half half...

Not very significant impact as most of the beneficial bacteria colonise in the sand bed, LR and in the filter. IMO they does help to control ICH & some floating algae, but not as effective as Ozonizer.

did your friend use a UV sterilizer or just UV directly shine on the tank??

Use before but doesn't work on me , so i sell off ......

But i realise that if the tank is mature and temperature well maintain ( doesn't fluctuate much ) . i have never seen my fish having white spot at all....

Yah I think the best is to have a well maintained tank... If not even the best equipment won't help..

ya , I think some people just place the UV light right on top of the tank !!!

that's how they kill the LS man ..

if shine directly on the tank, if fish don't die also will mutate. yellow tang turn brown. brown tang turn black and black turn red with horns....ha ha ha ha ha?????? Damn i think i am out of my mind. i guess too much stress this week already.

hi All,

the Uv should be installed under the tank in the sump area. only water passes it killing free floating bateria that passes thru the UV. So i dont see the logic of the LS being killed because of the Uv.
