SRC Member NubReefer Posted February 27, 2018 SRC Member Share Posted February 27, 2018 I have been troubled for almost a month by these cyano in my 2 gal pico reef, it seems to grow back within the next day. The cyano will always cover my zoas and killing them, i heard some hermit is very effective at eating them but there is 3 problem 1. I have 3(yes three) anemone in the tank and im afraid the anemones and the hermit will kill each other. 2. I also have a feather duster in that tank, from what i heard, i cant trust hermit with feather dusters. 3. Tank size, the anems already took up one-third of the tank size, and the corals is also taking up space espically my hammer. So to these three problems, i really need help on whether to get a hermit, if yes, what species if perfect for the job? If no, What other options i have left? Any idea or suggestion is greatly appreciated, thanks Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
SRC Member kakak99 Posted February 27, 2018 SRC Member Share Posted February 27, 2018 Hermit crabs have many type. Blue legged hermit crab and red legged hermit crab are safer scavengers. However they don't eat cyano. Some fish (some goby) will eat cyano, you can also try snail and sea hares. But if cyano grow faster than they can do, you can try to remove cyano manually until your tank stable. Reduce while light will help. SRC Member NubReefer Posted February 27, 2018 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 27, 2018 I have seen both your reply and appreciate your answer, but i think christan1959 have the better answer. As a goby it basically to huge to be in the pico and theres too much danger such as anemones. So chemiclean it is then, how much is one? And where can i buy it? Information is highly appreciated. ThanksSent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

SRC Member christan1959 Posted March 14, 2018 SRC Member Share Posted March 14, 2018 Petmart sells... around $50. U need strong aeration during treatment. Followed by 20% water change. But if your tank conditions are poor, it will return (but not for a few weeks). So Chemiclean works v well to get rid of slime algae, you still need to have good tank husbandry to keep it away for long period of time. It will return at some point. It is after all, one of the most primitive life forms on Earth. It's not a problem if it occurs in isolated spots. Just brush off and siphon away. It's only a problem when it spreads and takes over the tank.
