SRC Member JustinK Posted April 13, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted April 13, 2004 Tried both before, IMO, they are both pretty ineffective, denitrate didn't really help bring down my nitrate levels, got rid of it in the end. Tried other commercial products claiming that they can bring down nitrates, but also never really work. AZ NO3 is good, but i think its used more in an emergency where your nitrates are sky high. Still think the best way to control your nitrates is still to do regular water changes (i change once a week), it may be a hassle, but i have managed to keep my nitrates around 20ppm for my 2 ft tank (used to be 80-100). Not ideal, but i guess i am pretty satisfied with the level, esp for a small tank. Also dun overfeed and dun overstock. I am feeding my fishes only once every 2 days and i realise that by doing that, my nitrates also decreased. Used to feed twice a day. Get a good skimmer to do nutrient exporting so that excess waste is removed before they even have a chance to decompose in your tank. DSB also helps.. Jus my 2 cents on my experience with nitrates so far, hope it helps
