What could have happened?

Hi all...

I went away for the weekend and when I came back today, my tank water conditions seemed to have changed but I'm not sure what happened. Need some expert advice here...

First of all, the water is cloudy... (recently I've started adding PO4 minus and nitrate minus solution? could this be the cause?). Both my anemones have moved. The frogspawn, hammer coral and one more torch coral did not expand.

All the LS are still around (so nothing is rotting anywhere) so what could have happened? I have not added anything new to the tank for a few weeks now.

Based on the test kit, phosphate and nitrite level has risen so seems like something is decomposing? But what can it be??

Appreciate some help and advice...

I've also tested salinity and seems ok.

Right now, the hammer and torch coral have started opening up again but the frogspawn seems to be slowly dying off. Should I remove the frogspawn?

Also my 2 anemones have gone hiding under the rocks... really puzzling...

The only thing I can think of that could be clouding up your water are your anemones. Normally before you can tell that an anemone is not doing well it is usually too late..

Always something more important than fish.

Hi,

I myself cant explain. But heard some LSF saying canister filter is not really recommended for marine tank. My problem is that all the corals refuse to "open" suddenly. I intend to shift to bio-tank. But still sekking for advice.

i think that canister filter are not recommanded because they are known to be no3 factory..

perhaps your no3 is high therefore your corals are not opening..

but of cause there might be other reasons :)

most prob is the anemone..

high NO3 will cause u some problem in future,my NO3 is high in the past did not really bother as my corals are all opening up,until mths later all start to die out..

The strange thing is only my frogspawn died off after the cloudy water cleared. The remaining 2 torch corals are ok. Fishes are also ok and the turtleweed starting growing again even though that rock was actually botak oredi... so puzzling

I still believe it's the effect of the nitrate minus solution.

Last time I used AZ-NO3 before, also a nitrate reducer. It indicated that water will get cloudy from 3rd or 5th days onwards. It's normal and will get clear later. You also need an efficient skimmer too.

Did you read carefully from the instruction about the amount dosing? AZ-NO3 also gives warning that coral will not bloom during this stress period, or may even die. Maybe that happen to your frogspawn. Last time after dosing, I observed that my hammer not opening well and leather shrink too. Ultimately all coral still survive.

If your water gets clearly now, probably the cloudness is due to the nitrate minus. Not sure about the P04 minus effect.
