Calibration of PH Pen

Hi, like to know from reefers if distill water can be used to calibrate PH pens to 7.0 reading ?

Believe distill water should be at PH 7.0 ? If so, car battery water ok ?

Kindly advise what source of common avaible liquid can be used, beside getting calibration liquid from lsf.

I think I heard of AT mentioning some calibration liquid sold at Petmart. Maybe can ask them.

get the milwaukee ph calibration liquid at petmart.

BTW, was told those car battery water sold in petrol station in bottles is at PH7.0 as it should be distilled waters. Not sure it any additives inside though. Anyone can comment or has tried measure it ?

Car battery water should be diluted sulphuric acid. The accuracy of yr pH pen depends on the calibration, if you try to cut corners on calibration, the pH measurement will not be accurate.

If the glass probe is washed with freshwater and stored in pH7.0 calibration fluid or potassium chloride after every use, it can last you at least a few years.

pH meter used continously will cause corrosion, algae growth and reduction in performance due to "wear and tear"

How do you store the PH pen after use? According to the instruction, add few drops of pH7.0 calibration fluid to the cap and the store the PH pen. Is it right or we have to fully dip in calibration fluid and store?

The idea is to keep the glass probe wet with a non corrosive fluid. You can put a few drops of the calibration fluid into the cap and keep away from heat. This will last for a few weeks so you will have to take it out to use it and top up the fluid in the cap.

a good idea would be to cut a small piece of soft sponge, soak it with the calibration liquid and place inside the cap...., also, whenever after use, always give the pen a few swings, to let the saltwater to flow out....

I bought my hanna pH pen for $39

Ya, got mine brand new at same price too. Really easy and fast to use.

To keep, the instruction says to rinse it with water to wash away the SW on the pen, then use calibration fluid in the cap to keep it. Keep the glass probe soak in the PH7.0 fluid.

Becare not the dip the pen beyond the maximum level mark when measuring. Think it is becos the there may be gaps around the LCD display that SW may get into and reach the electonics inside.

Barracuda, yr abv statement is not true. The bottled water U buy for top up your car battery is basically distilled water, its TDS content is zero & not diluted H2S04 as you say. I think U shld chk yr facts b4 dishing this kind of advice out!

I do however, recommend getting proper pH7.0 calibration fluids from Petmart sold for this specific purpose of doing the job it is intended for.

i have this hanna PH pen tester. I think the battery is going flat soon. I don't recall if there is an instruction paper on how to change the battery(may have lost it). Anyway, silly question, but are we able to change the battery?

Not able to find any screws or whatsoever that allows me to open up the PH Pen tester.
