Fluval Evo 5g Saltwater Tank

Recommended Posts

Dear forum member,

I am new to saltwater but would like to set up a FOWLR.

I'm considering the Fluval Evo but like to get some feedback on this tank if anyone can share.

Is there still a mean to hang a skimmer on this tank?

Is the flow from the pump sufficient?

Sorry I am too new to post good questions but any feedback are appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello, welcome to the hobby! There are several issues with a small like such as a 5 gallon. Firstly, the salinity of the tank will increase really quickly due to evaporation. Secondly, the bioload will also reach max capacity really quickly (unless you're only adding one fish).
I would recommend that you at least go for the Innovative Marine Nuvo 20 which is 20 gallons, and is much more stable. It has a back compartment where the skimmer and filter media can fit.

Yes u can hang a skimmer at the back. A mame glass skimmer is ideal. (Im selling a second hand mame skimmer if u are interested).

Pump is too weak for marine. It's only 300l/hr. But u can upgrade to a 500l/hr pump with some modifications due to the small chamber size.

U will also need an auto top off to keep salinity stable. And a chiller. AL30 chiller is sufficient.

I'm keeping a fluval evo 5 reef tank with corals. It's doable.

I would agree that it's good for corals like Zoas and softies/LPS if u have the above equipment. FOWLR wise would be problematic as it would contribute to bioload and also territorial issues. Also have issues for higher diseases issues.

Due to limited space I have to limit myself to a 5 gal. I'm looking at keep 2 to 4 clown fishes in the 5 gal tank.
