NYOS Quantum 220 or 300

Hi. I am planning to start a 6 x 2.5 x 2.5 tank. Total volume including the sump is about 1300litre / 340gallon. I know the Quantum 220 is rated for up to 2000litre but my question is will my tank do better in Quantum 300? I am thinking of long run healthy tank and not the initial costing. Anyone can advice me on that?

If space not a concern, go for over rating skimmer.

Depends on what is ur main export method.. if u r not having a refugium... then go for the Nyos 300.. because you can't really skim the tank too clean one.. especially if u feed the fishes..

i second the nyos 300 - if cost and space is not a constrain, even if you have a refugium. 

not everyone can successfully grow macroalgae consistently, but a skimmer will be consistent.

Alright i have decided to go with the Nyos 300. Thanks all the sifu for the advice. Will start posting photo when i setup the tank.

Hopefully I'm not too late - I would go with the 220.  Overskimming is fine, but if you overskim by too much, the skimmer ends up being inefficient and not able to skim out smaller amounts of waste due to the neck being too wide.  Instead of a constant skim, the skimmer will end up skimming the same amount but intermittently as the waste accumulates to an amount that the wider neck is able to skim out.  I have experienced this previously when I oversized my skimmer using a Bubble Magus C9 on my 4x2x2 - I found skimmate production much much worse than when I downsized the skimmer to a smaller rated one.

I currently have a similar sized tank 72" x 28" x 20" and I'm using a 220.  Very happy with it.

Hi. Thanks for the detailed explanation. You have got very good point too. Would like to ask what is your total gallon in your aquarium including the sump? And is your aquarium fully stocked? Mind sharing more details like how often you need to maintain the skimmer or clean the cup? My tank size will be very similar to yours. Previously i was thinking of a tank size 72x30x30 but after careful consideration i think 30inch height is a little too high and harder for maintenance so now i am thinking either to change it to L72xW24xH24 or 84x24x24... ..
or 72x30x24 or 84x30x24

I'm not a sifu, but I think 72x30x24 is better.  Front to back depth adds alot to viewing pleasure.  Lower height makes for easier maintenance.  I used to have a 72x28x28 (freshwater) and maintenance was a pain.
