DI unit instead of RO/DI

Hi guys,

I have an RO/DI unit at home, but it produces more waste water than I would like, I really hate watching the waste water go down the drain.

So I am thinking of removing the RO unit and just run activated carbon with DI,

Has anyone done this before? Did you manage to get 0 or close to 0 TDS water?

Hmm. It is hard to determine the exact volume but I do a 25 litre water change every week. Assuming that is 100 litres a month, it would be give or take 600 litres before the resin is exhausted.

Yes I have a 5 stage DI unit; 1 sediment filter, GAC, carbon block, and 2 resin. It produces 0 TDS for me. I have to replace resin after 6 Mths.

You can consider running a booster pump which will increase the production of the good water and reduce waste water output.

I keep the waste water which is high in tds for watering of plant which is quite good .

How fast is the water flow when using a Di system? When I used RO the water just trickles out, is it the same for DI?

The flow rate will depend on the water pressure of your house as well. Higher the pressure, faster the ro water being produced.

Using 4 stage DI system only, 1 stage sediment filter, 1 stage carbon block and 2 stages resin. Able to get 0 tds, but flow rate must trickle vv slowly...
