Overflow Box for Prizm

I am using a Prizm in my 2ft reef and no other filter.

Issue: I would like the water surface skimmed instead of the Prixm taking in water below waterline.

Have tried: Read about this guy in RC using a standard 3.5" diskette box with teeth cut at the rim to act as overflow box. Prizm intake is inside this box. I made one but found it difficult to adjust the height of the box relative to water level. Water intake is inconsistent.

Possible solution: use a bigger and deeper box so that more of Prizm intake is submerged.

To look out for: excessive water evaporation. must top up regularly or water level may fall below overflow box teeth and the Prizm will be ###### in air eventually.

If you understand the blah-blah above, do you think this will work?

Thanks

Me thinking of the same thing too since i bot the skimmer - say the guy's DIY too previously...I think it'll work provided the teeth go deeper down, and the box can compensate for some evaporation? Me can't find any suitable boxes though...

I doubt is longer teeth will help. Don't bother with the diskette box. but if you want it, I still have it - teeth and all. I've also treid attacging a standard surface skimmer to it - no go. Prizm pump is too weak and it's not self priming.

unless anyone has any other ideas/opinions, I guess I will invest some time on a larger and deeper box.

Wedgee, I'll let you know if I come across a suitable 'box' for this purpose.

I think it's abit difficult.. Unless you extend the intake tube longer..

Because if using overflow box, water level in the box will be quite low.. Bubbles will also be expected.. So if too much bubbles, then the water might syphon back into the overflow box..

Then water flow will be cut..

Hmmm...

Maybe you guys can look into a smaller box with a deeper depth..

That might help..

I simply use pliers (used them for my other equally expensive hobby - model assembly) to cut those teeth.

Tango,

Which LFS told you this? I'll also check online for items and prices. Can 'tong-pang' my colleague from the US who will be coming to Singapore. I'm trying to find a box, partition it into two, teeth on one half, water goes to next chamber from under partition and sucked out by Prizm intake.

I've just checked out the on-line store I am ordering products from. They don't have accessories for the Prizm - they sell only complete units. Sorry! I don't want to order from other store because I trust this one and have been ordering drygoods from them whenever I go to the US or my US colleagues come to Singapore - no shipping freight to pay!

But if you know which on-line store I can order from, let me know and I will check out the freight (freight usually kills all price advantage) by Monday becuase the stuff gotta reach him before he leaves!
