ssyssy
Hi community: I am new reefer and I am seeking your advice. My tank is very big. The volume is about 350L for display tank and 160L for sump tank respectively. Although I have RO water filter, the water output is too slow. it will take a few days to produce the amount of RO water I need. I am thinking is it possible to start water cycling with tap water? Has anybody tried that with good result? Edited January 9, 2017 by ssyssy
SRC Member Fjdam Posted January 9, 2017 SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2017 I did this too.. but not sure if it is part of the cycling process or due to the tap water, but i have some algae problem for a month or two. But it is stable now. Another option is to use a NSW which you could buy from LFS to speed things up and save your time and salt Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
SRC Member Ashtrax Posted January 9, 2017 SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2017 You can try doing this fill your tank with tap water. Run a power head and connect it to a DI reactor in series, let it cycle in your tank. There you will get your water you wanted. Who your tank maker? I custom made the tank on Taobao, then sea freight shipping to Singapore. 12mm super white glass + shipping, the cost is around $700.

SRC Member Fjdam Posted January 9, 2017 SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2017 Other than Alge problem, is your coral ok with the tap water? BTW what is NSW and LFS? Apart from algae, fishes and corals are healthy. Infact its doing well. If i were to restart my tank, i would do this method, cycle with NSW. Save my time but other reefer has own preference and opinion. BUT with oil spillage lately, im not sure about the condition and the qualitySent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
SRC Member Dechew Posted January 10, 2017 SRC Member Share Posted January 10, 2017 I did my cycling using only tap water and anti-chlorine conditional. Np. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

SRC Member Jairus Posted January 10, 2017 SRC Member Share Posted January 10, 2017 haha yea, think only got future algae issues but with regular water changes will be fine. Just use anti-chlorine will do. Do update us on the cycling process!
SRC Member Dechew Posted January 10, 2017 SRC Member Share Posted January 10, 2017 Just do water change with ro/di after cycle will suffice. At least that's what I do with no serious impacts. Just my 2 cents worth of info sharing.Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
SRC Member yukok.lim08 Posted January 10, 2017 SRC Member Share Posted January 10, 2017 Cycling using tap water is fine, new tank cannot avoid diatom and other algae phase. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
