Protein Skimmer Guide

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I used to pick up marine reef hobby about 5-6 years ago and stopped for a while now. This protein skimmer i have is about 3feet in height and used for a 6x2.5x2.5 ... Now that i plan start the hobby again, just wanna check is this skimmer too old model for today standard? Has protein skimmer technology changed is recent years? Maybe smaller sizes, lesser power consumption, less noise etc... Any advice will be great. Thanks!

This is the beckett skimmer which is one of the best in the past. However the downside of it in the past is that it need a powerful pump to drive it and required regular maintaining in order for it to performance at its best.

You can still use it for a start or upgrade to a better skimmer

Thanks for the info! Apart from the power consumption and regular maintenance? Does modern skimmer come smaller in size to perform the same result? Coz my main concern is actually performance and space. If i am to discard the skimmer and get a new skimmer for the same size then most likely i will just use the current one to save cost.
